Did VVS Laxman Retire Because of MS Dhoni’s Behaviour? Here’s The Truth
This happened after one joke of Laxman on the former captain got blown out of proportion by the media. According to Laxman, it triggered the first and only controversy in his cricketing life.
So what is the truth? Known as ‘Captain Cool’ for keeping a very calm personality even in the most difficult times, MS Dhoni never loses his temper and that could be one aspect that makes him a great and highly respected among the cricket fraternity. Similarly, VVS Laxman too is known to have a very calm and poised personality but rumours took off that there were differences between the two legends that led to the retirement of Laxman. But Laxman seems to have clarified that in his latest autobiography ‘281 and Beyond’, where he praises Dhoni’s attitude and says that Dhoni manages to remain calm in the most difficult situations and backs his players as well.
Laxman has also cited an example when he said that Dhoni maintained his cool even after a whitewash in England and while India was nearing another whitewash in Australia in 2011-12. This is in contrast to the public perception that Dhoni isn’t really approachable off-field, Laxman wrote in his book that captain cool’s hotel room was always open for teammates till the time he went to sleep.

This happened after one joke of Laxman on the former captain got blown out of proportion by the media. According to Laxman, it triggered the first and only controversy in his cricketing life.
Laxman got nervous after the media had picked up this statement but then Dhoni calmed him down in the best possible way. Dhoni said,” Laxman Bhai, you are not used to these controversies, but I am. Don’t take this to heart. We all know that, sometimes, facts need not come in the way of a good story”. Just goes to highlight the humble nature of the cricketer.
Currently, Dhoni is in India and will join the team next year in Australia for the ODI series.
