'Don't be surprised if both...': Sunil Gavaskar make huge claim on Kohli and Rohit, extends his support by...

New Delhi: Former Indian captain and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has defended Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli despite their poor performances in the first ODI against Australia. The pair teamed up after nearly seven months in Perth but failed to live up to expectations. Rohit scored just 8 runs, while Kohli was dismissed without scoring.

Playing on a difficult pitch is not easy: Gavaskar

Gavaskar, speaking to India Today, said that the Perth pitch was extremely bouncy, making batting difficult in such conditions. He explained, “For players who have been away from international cricket for several months, scoring runs on such a pitch is challenging. Even regulars like Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer struggled.”

“Rohit and Kohli will make a big comeback in the next two matches”

The former captain said that fans need not panic as both players’ form will return once they get more match practice. Gavaskar said, “It wouldn’t be surprising to see big scores from Rohit and Kohli in the coming two matches. The more they play, spend time in the nets, and take throwdowns, the sooner they’ll get back into rhythm.”

“India is sure to cross 300”

Gavaskar expressed confidence that once these two batsmen start scoring runs, India’s total will easily reach 300 or more. He said, “India is still a strong team. This team has won major tournaments like the Champions Trophy, and with experience, this pair will start scoring runs soon.”
