It was double delight for the Sarfaraz Khan family just days after the Mumbai batter scored his maiden Test century in the 1st Test vs New Zealand in Bengaluru. Sarfaraz Khan and his wife Romana Zahoor became proud parents to a beautiful baby boy on Monday night.

Sarfaraz shared the news of him becoming a father for the first time on his official Instagram account through a story. “IT’S BABY BOY,” Sarfaraz wrote in the Instagram story.

Sarfaraz got married to his wife Romana Zahoor in August last year in Kashmir. Romana hails from the Shopian district in Jammu & Kashmir. She is B.Sc. (Bachelors of Science) student and 26 years of age and met the Mumbai batter through a mutual family connection. The batter’s wife prefers to keep a low profile in spite of her husband’s recent success in international cricket.

Romana has stood by Sarfaraz through thick-and-thin and supported her husband in all situations. It’s no wonder that Sarfaraz rushed to hug his wife and father Naushad Khan immediately after scoring his maiden Test fifty against England earlier this year.

Sarfaraz Khan’s thrilling Test ton

The young Indian batter came in to the 1st Test line-up to replace injured Shubman Gill. After scoring a duck in India’s first innings total of 46, the pressure was firmly on Sarfaraz to make his mark in the limited opportunity presented to him.

The youngster blasted a brilliant 150 in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test, putting on a century stand first with former India captain Virat Kohli, who scored 70 and then a thrilling 177 for the fourth wicket with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who notched up 99.

The partnership between Sarfaraz and Pant raised hopes of an unlikely Test win for Rohit Sharma’s side even after conceding a 356-run first innings lead. But Pant’s dismissal started a dramatic collapse which involved India losing their last 7 wickets for 54 to ultimately lose the 1st game by 8 wickets.

It was India’s first loss to New Zealand in Test cricket at home since 1988. Sarfaraz has made it very hard for the Indian team management to drop him for the remaining two Tests against New Zealand even if Gill regains his fitness.

India will begin the second Test against the Black Caps at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Thursday.
