It took England just three days to go one up in the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The hosts defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 88 runs in the first Test at Leeds. In response to England’s 1st innings total of 298, Sri Lanka could only manage 91 in their 1st innings and thus were asked to follow-on. Anderson was the wrecker-in-chief in the both the innings, picking 5/16 and 5/29 respectively. Also Check- England vs Sri Lanka 2016 Schedule
It was Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales’ 141-run stand for the sixth wicket that helped England put a decent total on board. While Hales was dismissed for 86, Bairstow went on to slam his second Test ton.
Coming back to Sri Lanka’s batting, it was poor in both the innings. None of the batsmen played with intent and looked helpless against the swing of Anderson and Co. Kusal Mendis was the only Sri Lankan batsman to go past 50-run mark.
The two sides now travel to Chester-le-Street for the second Test starting from May 27.
