Australia made an exceptional comeback in Ashes 2015 series by securing an imposing win over hosts England at the Lord’s. Trailing 0-1 in the five-match series the visitors regrouped themselves to win the second Test and draw level the series. Australia dominated the Lord’s Test right from the beginning and never let England off the hook. Chris Rogers and Steven Smith laid the foundation with a solid 284-run partnership for the second wicket which saw Australia post mammoth 1st innings total of 556 runs. While Rogers fell short of his double ton, Smith made sure he got to the milestone.

Australian bowlers then complimented batsmen and had English batsmen in all sorts of trouble. Barring Alastair Cook and Ben Stokes rest of the batsmen failed to deliver as England handed Australia a 1st innings lead of 254 runs. Australia eventually declared their 2nd innings on 254 for eight and set England a daunting target of 509 runs. Responding to huge task England batsmen once again faltered and were bundled out for 103, thus handing Australia a convincing win by 405 runs, their third biggest in an Ashes Test. Man of the match Steven Smith amassed aggregate of 273 runs in the Lord’s Test, which includes 215 in 1st innings and a half-century in 2nd innings.

Chris Rogers too had a prolific time with the bat, a knock of 173 runs in 1st innings and then 49 in 2nd innings before being retired hurt.

Mitchell Johnson finished with match figures of 6/80 as he scalped prized wickets throughout the Test.

Having played 18 Tests at Lord’s, this was for the first time James Anderson failed to pick a wicket at the venue. In the last 60 Tests, this is also the first time that he has gone wicketless.

With Australia drawing level, it has set the tone for remaining of the series. The two teams, seeking a lead, will now battle it out at Birmingham in the third Test starting on July 29.
