New Delhi: In one of the highly anticipated matches of the English Premier League (EPL) 2017/18 season, Manchester City defeated Manchester United 2-1. It was defender Nicolas Otamendi winner’s that helped City win the Manchester Derby at the Old Trafford.

Manchester City went 11 points clear after the victory, leading the EPL table after 16 matches, while Manchester United remained at the second spot with 35.

Otamendi (54 minutes) scored the decider in the second half after star winger David Silva provided the visitors lead in the 43rd minute. For Manchester United, forward Marcus Rashford (45+2′) scored the lone goal nearing the end of first-half.

After the match, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was not happy with referee Michael Oliver as he didn’t award them a penalty.

“My first reaction is I feel sorry for Michael Oliver because he had a very good match but unfortunately he made an important mistake. The result was made with a big penalty not given. That would have been 2-2. Michael was unlucky because it was a clear penalty,” Mourinho was quoted as saying by BBC.

“Probably, yes. Manchester City are a very good team and they are protected by the luck, and the gods of football are behind them,” Mourinho said when asked whether Man Utd’s title chances are over or not.

The Pep Guardiola-managed City (65 per cent) dominated most of the possession getting seven shots on target in comparison to Manchester United’s five.
