They met after 12 years!
India captain Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman in the world but he was humble enough to go and pass on tips to his mate from his U-19 days, Essex cricketer Varun Chopra. The two old mates met after 12 years during the ongoing Essex vs India practice game.
He was glad to meet Virat Kohli, understandably so.
“I chatted with Virat and was trying to pick his brain as he is one of the world’s best, if not the best. Actually, I am going to meet him again tomorrow to talk a little more specifically, like today we were only talking about cricket generally and how things are,” he said.
The 31-year-old cricketer seemed in awe of the Indian captain and his achievements.
“Ishant Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma I was lucky to play against while growing up at the U19 level. Know them well enough to say hello to. They have all had great careers from their U19 days,” he concluded.
He also went on to say that the upcoming five-Test series is going to be a good contest between two quality teams of world cricket.
Meanwhile, Kohli scored a fluent 68 off 83 balls against Essex. But the way in which he was dismissed would give him bad memories of 2014, a dreadful series for Virat Kohli. That year he got off 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0,7, 6 and 20 in the five Tests, averaging 13.50 in his 10 innings. In coloured clothes then, he got scores of 0, 40, 1* and 13. He will certainly like to rectify that and put the record straight. Hence, this tour would be a big Test for Virat, who certainly would like to settle a few scores.
