London, Jan 07: Canadian tennis ace Eugenie Bouchard joked that maybe American tennis star Serena Williams needed another coffee after recording her first ever win against the world number one at the Hopman Cup in Perth. Dropping just three games in a stunning win over Williams, Bouchard won 6-2, 6-1 in 50 minutes to give Canada an early lead over the United States in the mixed team event at the Hopman.
Having required an on-court espresso to get her going in her opening match on Monday, Williams again looked sluggish, The BBC reported. Williams claimed that she doesn’t know what is wrong with her, adding that she feels so tired. She said that it’s weird and she cannot get her body to move, adding that she feels like she has got no energy, insisting that it’s a little frustrating because she knows she can play two thousand times better.
The American will play Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in her next singles match on Thursday. Bouchard enjoyed her first-ever win against Williams, and joked afterwards that maybe the American needed another coffee, adding that she knows the world number one didn’t play her best.
Bouchard insisted that she is happy she just stayed with it and held her nerve, adding that it’s a good way to start the year and gives her some confidence. Vasek Pospisil later beat John Isner 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to give Canada an unassailable 2-0 lead over the US, before Williams and Isner took the mixed doubles 6-3, 7-5, the report added.
