London, April 22: Olivier Giroud, Alvaro Morata fired one goal each in the second-half for Chelsea against a depleted Southampton side in the second semi-final at the Wembley Stadium here on Sunday to set up a final date against Manchester United on May 19.
Giroud opened the scoring for the London giants in the 46th minute while Morata (82nd) gave them the breather in dying minutes of the fixture.
The Antonio Conte managed side were undoubtedly the better side in the game having 17 shots in comparison to Southampton’s 9 while Chelsea had five shots on target compared to 3 from the 18th placed club in the English Premier League (EPL) points table.
Chelsea also dominated 57% of the possession till the final whistle while Southampton who caused too many tactical lapses had four of their players booked with a yellow card.
Earlier, Manchester United defeated Tottenahm Hotspur 2-1 to become the first finalists. For the Jose Mourinho managed side, Alexis Sanchez scored the equalizer in the first half which was followed by a winner from Ander Herrera – which came as a result of an attack that was initiated by Sanchez – who was later handed the man of the match.
