Meanwhile, France lifted their second World Cup crown against the first-time finalists Croatia. Teenager Kylian Mpabbe was the highlight for France along with Paul Pogba. Mpabbe became the second teenager since Pele in 1958 to score a goal in the summit clash. Paul Pogba also became the first footballer to do the dab with the World Cup.
Also, after anchoring France to a memorable World Cup triumph in Russia, coach Didier Deschamps has joined an elite list of gentlemen as he became the third person in the history of football to lift the coveted trophy as a player and as a coach. Only Brazil Mario Zagallo and Germany’s Franz Beckenbauer have won the World Cup as both a player and a coach.
Deschamps brilliant run as a coach in the 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup has seen him become France’s longest-serving manager. ‘Les Blues’ semi-final win over Belgium was Deschamps 82nd match in charge as the coach of the national side.
