Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, the teenage sensation it was, who sealed the deal for France as they beat Argentina 4-3 in the Round of 16 to sail through to the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018. It was the surreal speed of the young Frenchman that proved too hot for the Argentina defence to handle. It was his speedy run in to the box, that gave France a penalty that saw Griezman break the deadlock in the early quarters of the match.

By scoring the brace, he also joined Pele to become the first teenager since Pele in 1958 to score twice in a tournament game.

He then scored two goals on his own to knockout Cup favourites Argentina. The match was also in all likelihood Messi’s (31) last Cup appearance.

Earlier, 60 years back, the Brazilian star netted a brace in the final that year in Sweden, as the Samba Stars beat the hosts 5-2.

Mbappe also became the first teenager since Owen in 1998 – 20 years ago – to score twice at a single World Cup.

With France now safely through to the quarters, Deschamps will be hoping for a repeat from the new kid on the block against Uruguay who have arguably the best defence in the tournament.
