New Delhi: India emerged victorious in the final Asia Cup 2025 clash against Pakistan on Sunday, September 28. India now turn their focus to the next big assignment, two-match Test series against West Indies, having previously secured a 2-2 draw against Ben Stokes-led England side.
Few expected Shubman Gill and his young Indian team to perform well in England, but their impressive performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series proved the critics wrong.
Karun Nair failed to secure his spot
Similar to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, India's number three spot remains uncertain ahead of the upcoming West Indies series. Karun Nair, who was given his second chance in Test cricket, failed to secure his place as he scored just one half-century in the five-match series. Sai Sudharsan and Devdutt Padikkal have both been included in India's 15-member squad for the West Indies series, but only one is likely to make it into the playing XI.
Devdutt and Sudharsan are in contention for no.three spot
Devdutt Padikkal made his Test debut against England on home soil in 2024. He scored 90 run in two Test matches at an average of 30, while Sai Sudharsan played his debut Test match for India in the Anderson-Tendulkar series and scored 140 runs in three Test matches so far
The India vs West Indies Test series arrives at a critical stage for Shubman Gill's team. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and captain Gill have only two days to recover before transitioning to Test cricket, as the Asia Cup 2025 concluded recently. The two-match series against the West Indies will also count towards the World Test Championship 2027, with important points at stake.
India's Predicted Playing XI
KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Ravindra Jadeja (VC), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj
