Goa is all set to host the Indian Super League (ISL) 2020 finals on March 14 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda in Margao confirmed Football Sports Development Limited’s founding chairperson Nita Ambani said on Sunday. Lavishing praise on FC Goa skipper Mandar Desai and striker Ferran Corominas, Ambani said it has been a pleasure to watch them play this season. She also said that they have been one of the most consistent sides in the league over the last six years.
“It has been such a joy to watch FC Goa this season. A fantastic team and the most consistent club in ISL over last six years. My heartiest congratulations to FC Goa’s captain Mandar, their lead goal scorer Coro (Ferran Corominas) and entire squad, coaching staff and the management for winning the first-ever ISL League Shield,” she added.
The last time Goa hosted an ISL final was way back in 2015 when Chennaiyin FC played the home side. The hosts lost the game 2-3 after leading 2-1 till full-time.
The winner of this year’s ISL final will be eligible to play the AFC Cup qualifiers. In case the ISL winner is same as the league stage winner (FC Goa), then the league strge runners-up will be awarded the AFC Cup qualifier berth.
