A special screening of Gold starring Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy was arranged for legendary hockey player Balbir Singh in Delhi on Sunday which was attended by famous Indian sports personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, PV Sindhu, Virender Sehwag among others. Famous Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag shared a tweet about the film and thanked Akshay for the special screening. Balbir was part of the Indian team at the 1948 London Olympics and played an important role in India’s win.

Sehwag took to his Twitter to share a picture with wife Aarti and their sons, along with Gold star Akshay and wrote, “Thank you @akshaykumar for the special screening. I am totally #SoldForGold. Wonderful performances and a really inspiring movie. May it do well and inspire many.” Replying to his tweet Akshay wrote, “Thank you so much Viru Paaji for coming. So glad to know you enjoyed the film”.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Independent India’s first gold medal, which was won at the 1948 Olympics Akshay shared a special video on Twitter and wrote, “Celebrate 70 years of free India’s first Gold by knowing how it feels by the history makers themselves.” The video was released on the same day of the screening and featured prominent sports personalities like Balbir Singh, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Abhinav Bindra and Sunil Chhetri. To mark the iconic day, seven landmark locations turned gold at 7 pm. These places include Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai), Statue Circle (Jaipur), Sabarmati Riverfront (Ahmedabad), PVR Plaza Connaught Place (Delhi), Prinsep Ghat (Kolkata), JK Temple (Kanpur) and Magarpatta City (Pune).

Gold is a historical sports drama inspired by India’s first Olympic gold medal and traces the ‘golden era’ of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a young assistant manager in 1936, who dreams of playing for an independent nation. This sports drama will take the audience back in time to witness the struggle of a team to make the nation proud. The trailer of the film has successfully evoked the patriotic sentiments of the audience making it a must watch this Independence Day.

Gold has been shot across the United Kingdom and India, capturing the fascinating aspects of the pre-independent era. Apart from Akshay and Mouni, the film also stars Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh and Sunny Kaushal. It promises power packed performances by an ensemble cast. Bankrolled by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and helmed by Reema Kagti, Gold is all set to release on the 15th August 2018.
