Former India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have delighted their fans before the New Year comes around, turning out for their respective domestic sides in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 tournament. While Rohit committed to playing a couple of matches for Mumbai in Jaipur, Kohli promised to turn out in 2 matches for Delhi in VHT 2025-26.
Kohli played in his first VHT match for Delhi after 15 years, smashing 131 and 77 in his two matches against Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday and Gujarat on Friday. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter has not scored six successive fifty-plus scores in List A cricket after scoring back-to-back ducks against Australia down under earlier this year.
The brilliant run from Kohli means that he now has the highest-ever average in List A cricket in the history of the game – 57.87 – surpassing former Australia batter Michael Bevan’s 57.86. Kohli now has 58 hundreds in List A cricket, second only to Sachin Tendulkar’s 60.
He also became the fastest batter to score 16000 runs in List A game, achieving the feat in 330 innings as compared to Sachin Tendulkar’s 397 innings. On Friday, Kohli smashed 13 fours and one six in his brilliant knock of 77 off 61 balls before being dismissed by Gujarat’s Vijay Jayaswal.
Rohit, on the other hand, returned to VHT after 7 years for Mumbai. Opening the batting for Mumbai, Rohit smashed 155 in 97 balls in the opening VHT 2025-26 match vs Sikkim in Jaipur on Wednesday.
However, to the disappointment of Rohit Sharma’s fans in Jaipur, the Mumbai Indians batter was dismissed for a first-ball duck vs Uttarakhand on Friday.
The question on everyone’s mind is now when will ‘RoKo’ be in action next. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be getting ready to turning out for Team India very soon as they get ready to play in ODI series vs New Zealand.
Team India will begin three-match ODI series against New Zealand in Vadodara on January 11, 2026. The second ODI will take place in Rajkot on January 14 and the third and final ODI will be in Indore on January 18.
