Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan will be leading Jharkhand in the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 tournament.

Kavya Maran’s Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to reach the IPL 2025 playoffs earlier this year. The IPL 2024 finalists have built an impressive squad for the IPL 2026 season with a successful time in the mini auction in Abu Dhabi last week.

While SRH opener Abhishek Sharma is currently the world No. 1 T20 batter and selects himself to India’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026 squad, Kavya Maran’s side got a massive boost when their star cricketer Ishan Kishan was also recalled to the T20I and selected for the premier ICC event which starts on February 7, 2026 as well.

Ishan has been rewarded for his brilliant performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2025 where he led Jharkhand to their maiden title last week. The Jharkhand and SRH wicket-keeper batter was the leading run-getter in SMAT 2025 with 517 runs in 10 matches with 2 hundreds and 2 fifties at a strike-rate of 197.32 with 33 sixes.

Ishan Kishan has now been named as captain of Jharkhand for the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 tournament starting on December 24. The domestic 50-over tournament will begin on December 24, with Jharkhand opening against Karnataka in Ahmedabad.

The squad announced for the VHT 2025-26 season features a mix of experience and youth, including SMAT 2025 performers Kumar Kushagra, Anukul Roy, Robin Minz, Abhinav Sharan and Virat Singh, as Jharkhand look to build on recent success in white-ball cricket.

Ishan Kishan had been signed up by Kavya Maran’s SRH for Rs 11.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Ishan was retained for the same price ahead of the IPL 2026 season. His defining moment in SMAT 2025 came in the final against Haryana, where he struck a commanding 101 to guide his side to the title.

His performance in the SMAT 2025, earned Kishan a recall to the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He has been picked as the team’s second-choice wicketkeeper-batter behind Sanju Samson.

“He bats at the top in white-ball cricket. He’s been in good form. He’s played before for India. He has a double hundred in one-day cricket. He wasn’t in the Indian team because there’s a Rishabh Pant and a Dhruv Jurel ahead. They’re two pretty good players,” Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar told the media in Mumbai on Saturday.
