Barcelona: Former Bayern Munich and Germany manager, Hansi Flick has reportedly arrived in Barcelona and is set to take over as the new Barcelona manager, replacing Xavi Hernandez. The role was left vacant after Xavi was sacked last week due to his comments regarding the club’s financial condition, which angered the club president Joan Laporta.

According to senior Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Flick is set to sign a contract that will keep him at Barcelona till 2026. All the details have been finalized, including the support staff and both parties will have a meeting soon regarding the transfer plans. He is expected to put pen on paper on Wednesday (May 29).

The 59-year-old has been without any job since the German national team sacked him due to poor performances. Prior to that Flick guided Bayern Munich to a treble in 2020 – German Cup, Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League.

He had also served as assistant to Joachim Leow at the Germany national team and enjoyed great success. Laporta has a big admirer of the German and wanted him to replace Ronald Koeman in 2021 but at that time he was committed to Bayern.

Earlier, Flick was seen in Barcelona, where he reportedly had dinner with the Laporta and other board members. He will take over the club amidst a financial crisis, where they need to offload players to adjust their wage bill.
