The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced its Test and One Day International (ODI) Teams of the Year. The selection of the respective teams was done by former cricketers Rahul Dravid, Gary Kirsten and Kumar Sangakkara. The performance of the players during the the period from 14 September 2015 to 20 September 2016 was taken into account.
While England’s Alastair Cook has been named as captain of the ICC Test Team of the Year India’s Virat Kohli has been named as captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year. The Test team boasts of four players from England, three Australians, and a player each from New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka and South Africa. No player from Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe found a place in the Test team. Interestingly, India’s Test captain Kohli finds no place in the team. All-rounder Ravi Ashwin, who has been named as the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year and Cricketer of the Year, is the only Indian in the team. The ODI side feaures three Australians and Indians each. South Africans form the majority in the ODI team with four players as Imran Tahir is named as 12th man. The team has one each from England and West Indies. No Pakistani player finds a place in this team as well.
Australia’s Starc and Warner are the only two players to feature in both the Test and ODI sides in 2016.
