Atletico de Kolkata qualified for the final second time after their inaugural Indian Super League (ISL) title clinch in 2014. At D Y Patil Stadium, ATK showed their grit to hold the Mumbai City FC in a 0-0 draw in the second leg of the match semifinal. Kolkata advanced to the final with a 3-2 aggregate victory in the tie.

However, it was not the result or Kolkata’s qualification to the final, but sadly the post-match fight that snatched away all the attraction Mumbai City FC player started kicking Kolkata players, who were celebrating their victory. The second leg of the first semi-final displayed early signs of getting volatile after Atletico de Kolkata defender Robert Lalthlamnuana was sent off in the 41st minute as he was booked for the second time in the match.

ATK’s defence didn’t allow Mumbai attack to break the defensive chain. As a result, Mumbai failed to score a goal, which made India skipper Sunil Chhetri’s side frustrated. (ISL 2016 Delhi Dynamos FC vs Kerala Blasters FC highlights)

Here is the video of the scuffle that took place after the match

It was reported that after the scuffle blood was streaming down of Kolkata’s defender Pritam Kotal’s face. Post match violence is not new in ISL. In 2015 Chennaiyin FC player Elano Blumer got involved in an ugly brawl with FC Goa teams and officials.

After the incident, FC Goa boycotted the presentation ceremony and then filed a police complaint against Chennaiyin FC’s Brazilian star and Blumer. This bloody incident concluded Blumer’s stint with the Indian Super League.

With ISL 2016 nearing its end, incidents like these certainly damage the goodwill of the tournament. Players need to behave professionally not just one the field but off it as well.
