India vs England, 3rd Test, Day 4 at Trent Bridge, Highlights – Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul not only destroyed England in the second innings but the bowler also joined Hardik Pandya, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma to become the fourth Indian bowler to get his name in the honours board in Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
Needing 10 wickets to win the 3rd Test on Day 4, England lost four wickets in the pre-lunch session and it seemed the game would be over by tea, but Stokes and Buttler combined to show grit and the ability to bat on till tea without losing a wicket. That is when the thoughts of the game pushing into the fifth day started looking like a reality.
That is when Jasprit Bumrah came up with the goods, putting an end to the flourishing 179-run stand between Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes and then backed it up with wickets of Bairstow, Woakes and Stokes to derail the hosts. Not only did Bumrah pick up a well-deserved fifer on his return but also showed why Virat Kohli was desperate to get him back in the team.
Earlier, chasing a mammoth 521-run target for victory in the third Test, England were 23 no loss with openers Alastair Cook (9*) and Keaton Jennings (13*) at the crease in their second innings against India on Monday.
It was India skipper Virat Kohli’s magnificent 23rd Test ton, his second ton of the series, India declared their second innings at 352 for seven, leaving the hosts an improbable victory target of 521 runs to chase with two full days play remaining in the match.
