Hockey India (HI) on Tuesday announced a 24-member India men’s hockey squad for the upcoming two-legged tie against World No.2 and defending champions Australia in the ongoing FIH Hockey Pro League 2020. Also Read - Hockey India Pledges Rs 25 Lakh Towards PM Cares Fund to Battle Coronavirus Crisis

The matches will be held on February 21 and 22 at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Also Read - Tim Paine on India Series: Presence of Steve Smith And David Warner Will Make Australia Tough to Beat



The team, which recently climbed to No. 4 in the FIH World Rankings, will continue to be led by Manpreet Singh with Harmanpreet Singh serving as his deputy. Also Read - India's Tour of Australia 2020 in Jeopardy as Australia Government Imposes Six Months Travel Ban

“After having two high intensity matches against the World Champions, we will be facing another strong team in Australia,” chief coach Graham Reid said on Tuesday. “We have again gone with a strong group of players who can provide us with a good balance throughout the field, and help us in competing against one of the best teams in the world.”



India faced world champions Belgium earlier this month where the team produced a 2-1 win in the first match, and then lost 2-3 in the second match. Before that, they had started their maiden Hockey Pro League campaign in domination fashion beating the Netherlands in both the matches in January.

Both the matches will start at 7:00 pm IST.
