Hockey World Cup 2018: Expectations will be sky-high from the Indian fans as India host the world in their home for the Men’s Hockey World Cup. After a glitzy opening ceremony, eyes will now shift for India’s tournament opener, where the hosts lock horns with South Africa. The home side, given the support and quality of players they possess, starts as outright favourites. India has a great history in the sport which gave them eight gold medals, but when it has come to the World Cups, they have triumphed just once. India lifted the crown in 1975 when they beat Malaysia 2-1.
It has been a long time since then and they would like to script history at home. Manpreet Singh will lead the team and experienced players like goalkeeper Sreejesh, Harmanpreet are also there which makes India a well-balanced side. India will look at their frontline to fire.
