Charith Asalanka’s Sri Lanka cricket team will look to take a massive step towards booking their place in the Super 4 stages of the Asia Cup 2025 when they take on minnows Hong Kong in their Group B clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Monday. The Sri Lanka vs Hong Kong is the second game of the double-header on Monday with hosts UAE taking on Oman in the first game in Abu Dhabi.
Asia Cup 2022 champions Sri Lanka began the tournament on a positive note with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh last week. The Lankan bowlers were impressive and restricted Bangladesh to 139 for 5 wickets. In reply, in form opener Pathum Nissanka smashed a 34-ball 50 while newcomer Kamil Mishara chipped in with 46 off 32 balls as the Lankans overhauled the target with more than 5 overs to spare to give a big boost to their net run-rate.
Hong Kong, on the other hand, suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Afghanistan and Bangladesh and are still searching for their first-ever win in Asia Cup 2025 after 21 years. Sri Lanka has already mentioned that they were planning to go in with a full-strength side in the clash against Hong Kong.
That means that the batting line-up will remain the same but former CSK off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana may return to the playing 11 to join Wanindu Hasaranga.
