Congress president Rahul Gandhi was in Imphal recently, where he interacted with students in a ‘Dialogue for Democracy’ session. During the event, he took questions from the audience gathered there. Swaying away from mainstream political questions, Rahul was asked if he supported Barcelona or Real Madrid (Two of the world’s most successful football clubs).

The 48-year-old’s prompt answer to the question transparently revealed his love for the game of football and five-time Balon’Dor ( World’s best football title) winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I am a Juventus fan but between Real Madrid and Barcelona, I am a Real Madrid fan.” Rephrasing further, he added, “Until Ronaldo was there, I was a Real Madrid fan”, the political leader said.

It is interesting to note that  Rahul Gandhi completely snubbed Barcelona and Ronaldo’s arch-rival Lionel Messi. Like most other Ronaldo fans, Rahul switched his allegiances from Real Madrid to Juventus after the transfer of the footballer.

Portuguese International Ronaldo had joined Italian giants Juventus from Spain’s Real Madrid earlier last summer in a deal worth 100 million Euros. He spent 9 years in the La Liga (Spain’s top-flight football league) club, winning several accolades to his name and for the team.

The 33-year-old remains Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer scoring 450 goals and registering 119 assists in 438 appearances, averaging 50 goals scored per season. He has maintained that momentum in Juventus as well, where he is the current top-scorer of the campaign.

Recently, Ronaldo scored a sensational hat-trick against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the round-of-16 Champions League tie, courtesy of which his team progressed to the quarterfinals of the coveted tournament.
