ICC Women’s World T20: Queen of Indian cricket Mithali Raj once again showed why she is the best when it comes to the big stage. It was her 51 off 56 balls that ensured India Women set up a sizable total for the Irish women which eventually resulted in a 52 run win and a semi-final spot. Raj also became the highest run-getter for India in T20I cricket overtaking Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Co. After the match, she took to Twitter and thanked fans for appreciating the game and also found women’s cricket interesting as at times it becomes a little too slow in comparison with men’s cricket due to slow pitches. Her thoughtful post read, “Love to come back here for feedback. Extremely happy to see people understanding cricket. To notice a slow wicket, tough conditions – things that only experts would speak of. Hoping for better weather at the Semis & a thrilling game!”
She also went on to become the women cricketer with the most number of 50+ scores in the 2018 calendar year surpassing Suzie Bates and Alyssa Healy to the feat.
Meanwhile, after managing 145 for 6 on a slow track, Indian spinners maintained tight leash on Irish women restricting them to 93 for 8 in 20 overs. This was India’s third win on the trot in the World T20, with six points in the bag – the Indian women were assured of a last-four spot along with Australia (6 points from 3 games) with New Zealand, Pakistan and Ireland already even before their campaign could officially end.
India eves will now await the winner from the other Group where hosts West Indies look to be the side that will take on the Women in Blue in the semi-finals. But before that, India will play Australia in the last Group match, which would be a dead rubber.
