Netherlands responded very poorly to the challenge presented to them in their first league game against Sri Lanka as they were bowled out for a record low score of 39. This is the lowest total in the history of T20 international cricket beating the previous low total of 56 by Kenya.

The start itself for the Dutch was disastrous as they lost three wickets for the score of 1 run. Angelo Matthews in particular was very severe on the top order as he picked up the important wickets of Borren, Myburgh and Barresi leaving the Dutch tottering at 9/4. It was all downhill from there, and even as Tom Cooper and Ben Cooper tried to bring some sort of stability to the innings, the challenge proved to be too much for them.

Tom Cooper ended up being the only batsmen to reach double figures in the innings as the top scored with 16. Angelo Matthews and Ajantha Mendis picked up three wickets apiece and Malinga chipped in with two wickets as well.

The performance proved that the Dutch still have a long way to go as far as far as competing against top test playing nations are concerned. Unless there is some sort of miracle or a thunderstorm, the 2 points from this game looks to be in the pocket of the Sri Lankans.

Brief score: Netherlands: 39/10 (Tom Cooper 16.   Ajantha Mendis 3/12, Angelo Matthews 3/16).
