“I bowled well against Australia here in the past so I wanted to continue that. This is the third time that I didn’t get a hat-trick,” said Yadav.
Yadav, who has recently recovered from an injury and made it to the side in time for the marquee tournament thanked her physio and teammates for her recovery.
“My physio and my teammates supported me a lot when I was injured,” she added.
The 28-year-old hoped that she picks a hat-trick later in the tournament.
“Hopefully, I get a hat-trick in the future,” she concluded.
In her four-over spell, she picked the wickets of a well-set Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haynes, the dangerous Elysse Perry and Jess Jonassen.
Poonam, who missed the preceding tri-series due to a hand injury, got good support from other bowlers including pacer Shikha Pandey, who kept it tight at the other end.
Earlier in the day, put in to bat, India struggled to a below-par 132 before Poonam (4/19 in 4 overs) foxed the Aussies with her googlies, turning the match decisively into her team’s favour.
Australia, who have won the competition four times in six editions, were all out for 115 in 19.5 overs.
