New Delhi: South Africa made a strong comeback in the T20 series and defeated India by 3 wickets in the second match. In this low-scoring match played in Port Elizabeth, the bowlers of both the teams dominated but South Africa won this match on the basis of the excellent all-round performance of Gerald Coetzee (1 wicket, 19 runs) and the fighting innings of Tristan Stubbs. Spinner Varun Chakraborty, who gave Team India hope of victory in this match by scoring only 124 runs, looked the strongest but even his 5 wickets could not stop South Africa. With this, the series was also tied 1-1.
Indian top order failed:
In the second match of the series on Sunday, November 10 at St. George’s Park, the batsmen of both the teams had to struggle. It started with Team India, which had scored big scores in the last several matches. Team India, which scored 202 runs in the first T20, could not even complete 20 overs this time and could score only 124 runs in 19.3 overs. Team India’s top order failed miserably in this match, in which the difficult pitch and strong bowling played an important role.
Varun Chakravarthy’s havoc but Stubbs got the win:
South Africa scored runs quickly in the first 2 overs but from the third over onwards, their wickets started falling and 3 wickets fell for 44 runs. The situation worsened further when 6 batsmen had returned to the pavilion for 66 runs. The reason for this was spinner Varun Chakravarthy, for whose balls the South African batsmen had no answer. Even the best spin batsman like Heinrich Klaasen could not survive, while David Miller was bowled on the first ball. Varun alone took 5 out of these 6 wickets, which was the best performance of his career.
Then South Africa lost the 7th wicket also at the score of 86 and Team India looked in a position to make a comeback. South Africa now needed 41 runs in 26 balls while only 3 wickets were left. But here its star batsman Tristan Stubbs (47 not out, 41 balls) stood firm, while Coetzee, who had shown amazing bowling, took charge. The South African pacer hit a six in the 17th over as soon as he came. Then in the 18th over, he sealed the defeat of Team India. In this over of Avesh Khan, Coetzee (19 not out, 9 balls) scored a total of 12 runs by hitting 2 consecutive fours. Then in the 19th over, Stubbs hit 4 fours and led the team to a memorable victory.
