Rohit Sharma Wants to Take it Forward From Virat Kohli, Confirms Ishan Kishan Would Open

Ahmedabad: Ahead of the first ODI versus West Indies, newly-appointed full-time limited-overs captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Ishan Kishan would be opening the batting along with him. Speculations were rife over who would open after Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad tested positive for Covid. With the opening pair now confirmed, Rohit also threw light on ex-captain Virat Kohli. Rohit expressed his desire to continue from where Kohli left.

“India is a very good ODI squad, I was the vice-captain when Virat Kohli was the captain – I have to continue where he left off with the template,” Rohit said.
Ahead of the home series versus West Indies, Rohit urged fans to forget about the Test captaincy as the focus is on limited-overs cricket.
“Workload management is important and we need to forget about Test Captaincy now, our focus is limited over series now,” he explained.
“I’d like to wish the India U-19 team all the very best for the Final. They’ve put in a great effort so far. The chat I had with them earlier was about the challenge of playing multiple teams in an ICC Tournament. You need to plan well,” Rohit wished the very best to the Yash Dhull-led U-19 Indian side ahead of the World Cup final versus England.
