India is celebrating its 72nd Independence Day on August 15, 2018. On this occasion, several sports personalities took to social media websites to extend their wishes. Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter and posted a picture with the national flag.
“Everything in life is hard-earned. Just like our independence. Among countless other things, there would have been no ‘Team India’ if not for the sacrifice of our brave freedom fighters. Let us not take that freedom for granted. #HappyIndependenceDay,” Tendulkar’s post read.
On the occasion, the Indian cricket team also posted a video on its official Facebook page.
Various other sports personalities posted their messages on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag from the ramparts of Red Fort on the occasion. During his fifth address, PM Modi announced his flagship health policy –Aayuhmaan Bharat. He also announced the much demanded permanent commission for women in armed forces. So far women were given short service commission in Army, Navy and Air Force.
