India captain Virat Kohli lays a lot of importance on fitness. He feels keeping fit is the only way to sustain good form and high performance. According to TOI, Kohli decided to stay away from animal protein four months ago and he feels his game has improved. Sure it has, and the numbers are a testament to that. It seems quite hard to believe that biryani lover Kohli has been so serious about his diet and that too considering he is from Delhi. Indians are foodies and there are no two ways about it. But Kohli has shown how diet makes all the difference at the biggest stage. The world’s best batsman’s diet includes protein shakes, vegetables, and soya. He has also given up on eggs.
“Kohli started this diet four months ago and is feeling stronger as his digestive power has increased. He isn’t missing eggs, meat or dairy,” sources said.
Kohli is not the only sportsman to have chosen the vegan way of life. Tennis ace Serena and Venus Williams have done it in the past. Formula One star Lewis Hamilton also has done it. Football star Lionel Messi also adopted the vegan way of life during the FIFA World Cup.
Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma turned vegan at around the same time, but the Indian captain had planned it in advance. A couple of years ago when Kohli was on a normal diet, he said given an opportunity he is ready to go vegan and now he feels his game has improved ever since he went completely vegan.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led Team India pulled off their biggest win over West Indies in one of the most ludicrous mismatches in recent times, inflicting on the hapless visitors an innings and 272-run humiliation inside three days in the first Test in Rajkot Saturday. The hosts dominated the game, amassing 649 for nine in their first innings before bowling out the West Indies twice on day three, to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
