Hardik Pandya on Wednesday received his maiden Test cap to become the 289th player to play Test cricket for India. In the first Test of the three-match series, India take on Sri Lanka in Galle.
India are returning to the same venue (Galle) from where it all started and never looked back. In 2015, India lost the first Test to trail 0-1 in the series but then clawed back to take the series 2-1.
Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first on a wicket which looks ideal for batting. Also Read: Kuldeep Yadav could be Virat Kohli’s secret weapon in Tests
“Last time we thought we were a batsman short, this time we are trying a solid combination. Hardik is a wicket taker and he gives us the much needed balance for the side,” the Indian skipper said at the toss.
Moreover, the match is also a landmark one for Ravichandran Ashwin, who will be playing in his 50th Test. KL Rahul out of the first Test with fever, Shikhar Dhawan and Abhinav Mukund will open the innings for India.
