India won the toss and opted to bat first on a placid MA Chinnaswamy wicket in Afghanistan’s debut Test. Shikhar Dhawan hit his 7th century against Afghanistan and it is a hundred before lunch. Dhawan brought it up in 87 balls and does it before lunch.

He became the 6th in the history of the game to get a hundred before lunch. He also becomes the first Indian to to so. India are 157 for no loss and the first session has been completely dominated by the Indians.

David Warner was the last to do it, he did it in against Pakistan in 2016-17. Topping the list is VT Trumper who did it against England in 1902. Former Australian cricketer VT Trumper did that a 116-years ago, just goes to show how far the game has come.

Here is what Twitter thought of his knock, thy reckoned he had put his T20 mode on. Dhawan had aborted net practice yesterday and rumour mills reckoned he may sit out, but that was not to be.

It has been mayhem since the morning a boundary has been hit every over. India has gone at 5.9, close to six per over.

India go into lunch on Day 1 at 158 for no loss. Rashid Khan who was supposedly the biggest threat posed by the visitor’s coming into the historic Test, went for 51 off 7 overs. Shikhar Dhawan also went past Virender Sehwag who held the record for the highest number of runs before lunch on Day 1.

They will surely look to step it up in the second session, knowing they have all their wickets in hand.
