India vs Australia 1st Test: India captain Virat Kohli is approaching another landmark where he will join the likes of the great Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laman, and Rahul Dravid. Kohli is eight runs away from becoming the fourth Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in Test cricket in Australia. Kohli is on 992 runs and has five centuries Down Under. It sure is a place he loves to travel. The Indian captain has been in hot form off late, he will look to continue his form from the Windies series that saw him score 184 runs in 2 innings at an average of 92.
Meanwhile, Kohli also got among the runs in the tour game against Cricket Australia XI where he scored 64 runs off 87 balls.
Today during practice, Kohli was getting himself tested with the short ball as he is well aware of the fact that pitches in Australia will offer reasonable bounce. Mohammed Shami was bowling to him and a ferocious bouncer from the bowler was tackled with utmost ease as Kohli ducked beautifully, letting the ball past him.
India will bank heavily on Kohli as always to get among the runs. On paper, India look a better side. This is also the case because Steve Smith and David Warner are serving bans and will not feature in the upcoming four-match Test series.
From India’s point of view, it would be interesting to see who opens the batting for India, now that Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the Test due to a left ankle injury he picked up during the tour game.
