India vs Australia 2018: Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma is on his fourth tour to Australia. He will also have the responsibility of leading the Indian pace battery in the four-match Test series. For a fact, it was in this country that he made a name for himself by repeatedly dismissing Australian captain Ricky Ponting in the 2007-08 series. It was his emphatic spell at Perth which helped India beat Australia in the third Test by 72 runs. Since then Ishant has played Test series in Australia in 2011-12 and in 2014-15. He is yet to win a Test series for his country but this time around the odds is favouring India, hence he would have a great opportunity to help India beat Australia. His stats from down under where he has played 10 Tests and picked up 20 wickets at an average of 62.15 does not show the success he has tasted down under, but at a certain time in his career, he made Ponting his bunny.
Addressing the media ahead of the first Test at Adelaide, Sharma was asked a range of questions by Australian journalists. But in between the presser, Ishant corrected a journalist who mentioned how the lanky speedster has been touring Australia for the past 11 years.
“I think you’ve been coming here for 11 years now, is that right?” asked the journo.
To which Ishant sarcastically replied, “Not every year I come here, but yes…”
“11 years since the first time,” the journalist quickly corrected his question before moving on.
Here is the video.
India has never won a Test series Down Under, but have drawn three series in Australia against the hosts in 1980-81, 1985-86 and 2003-04.
“The biggest thing right now is to win the series and that’s what everybody is focusing on right now. We are not even thinking about personal performances. Just one aim that is to win a series in Australia,” Ishant told reporters ahead of the four-day practice match against Cricket Australia XI on Wednesday.
