India vs Australia 2019: BCCI Announce ODI, T20I Squads, Twitter Furious Over Dinesh Karthik Omission
India's selection left the fans divided in opinions, while some have rejoiced with choice, some expressed their dissatisfaction. The latter was in particular because wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik was omitted from the squad.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced the squad for the upcoming T20I and One Day International (ODI) series against Australia to be held from 24th February at home. The squad selection left the fans divided in opinions, while some have rejoiced with choice, some expressed their dissatisfaction. The latter was in particular because wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik was omitted from the squad. This decision comes as a shock to many as some weeks ago, Karthik revealed that the team management looks up to him as a finisher.
This has put some fans into the considering that perhaps it is now the youngster Rishabh Pant, who will be the second choice wicketkeeper in the team.
The 33-year-old displayed a decent performance in the recently concluded India’s tour of Australia and New Zealand registering the scores of 38* (38), 25* (14), 12 (21) and 0(1). Although Pant has not had the same impact but good displays in test cricket leveraged his case for the upcoming series.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Dinesh Karthik’s omission:
Dinesh Karthik is the unluckiest guy right now, I think the selectors are unnecessarily trying to fit in Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul into the squad. They should’ve tried to have a look at other possible bowling options in this series. The likes of Umesh, Shardha Thakur etc…

@BCCI selection is inexplicable. What did @DineshKarthik do wrong to get dropped? When people like @klrahul11 keep getting chances, why does DK get to face the axe all the time.

Where is @DineshKarthik . Y he was dropped? Wt more u r expecting from Dk. @imVkohli wants pant and Rahul. I am big fan of Virat. If he plays without @DineshKarthik I never support him.wtf@BCCI . No finisher for India. The policy shud b same for all.u r giving less chances.sad😔

What about dinesh karthik he his better than raiydu……he has experienced to play in England
Totally unfair with Dk😏😏😏— Palash Chandrabhan Kamble (@PalashC68440567) February 15, 2019
Why KLRahul earned place in team and Dinesh Karthik left out of team? Any reason for not selecting jaddu, at least he will be used as substitute instead of Rahul in team. India wasted one place by picking Rahul.

How expensive a single can be? Tch tch.. @DineshKarthik .. gotta feel for the guy. Always the scapegoat 😒

This is really unfair with Dinesh Karthik, I am quite sad right now
Suddenly someone like Vijay Shankar who was not in the scheme of things until Hardik got suspended is in the team
Even when Rishabh Pant didn’t perform in the WI series in India the selectors are going with him— Rohan Dhankani (@DhankaniRohan) February 15, 2019
The T20Is will be played on February 24 and February 27 in Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru, respectively, followed by the ODI series starting in Hyderabad on March 2.
