India vs Australia 2019: India pacer Umesh Yadav has got another opportunity to cement his spot as the fourth or the backup seamer for the upcoming World Cup. He has been picked for the two-T20I matches. It will be interesting to see if he gets to make the cut in the starting XI in the games. With Jasprit Bumrah, Buvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami in good form, Yadav will target the spot for the backup seamer. After the selection in the T20I squad, Umesh took to Twitter and posted a cryptic tweet which read, “I’m going to always rise above the doubt that may exist about me.”

Others in the fray for that spot are Mohammed Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, Jayadev Unadkat and Siddharth Kaul.
After a disappointing 2018, Umesh joined his Vidarbha side for the remaining Ranji Trophy matches of the 2018/19 season. He scalped 26 wickets in five wickets as he played an essential role in guiding the team to the final before they lifted their second straight title.
Meanwhile, after the squad announcement, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar opined that he won’t be surprised if Umesh makes it to the World Cup squad for India.
“Yes because if they don’t find any viable and dependable fourth pure seamer by the end of the T20I series they will go to Hardik Pandya and use him as a third or the fourth seamer. But there is I think a back-door entry for Umesh Yadav. Don’t be surprised if he is in the final squad there. In T20Is he has proved his worth for RCB. So this works out well for him,” Manjrekar said in a conversation with ESPNCricinfo.
