India vs Australia 3rd Test Melbourne: India captain Virat Kohli doffing his hat to Jasprit Bumrah after the speedster’s six for 33 bundled out the hosts for 151 is a sight to behold. The incident happened on the third day of the Melbourne Test when Bumrah’s record-breaking spell gave India a lead of 292 runs. Bumrah has had a phenomenal 2018 since he made his debut in South Africa. He picked up a five-wicket haul in South Africa, then repeated it with another five in England and then his latest exploits at the MCG has meant he is certainly India’s biggest find in Test cricket.
Here is the video where you can see Virat Kohli diffing his hat to Jasprit Bumrah as India walk off the field.
This is Bumrah’s third five-wicket haul in Tests and his figures at MCG is the second best by an Asian.
Bumrah’s career-best figures of 6/33 also made him the first bowler from the sub-continent to take a five-for or more in South Africa, England, and Australia in the same year.
Most wickets in debut calendar year for India:
41 J Bumrah (2018) *
40 Dileep Doshi (1979)
37 V Prasad (1996)
36 N Hirwani (1988)
35 S Sreesanth (2006)
He also became the first Asian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in Australia, England, and South Africa in the same year.
While watching Bumrah marking his run-up on the field is arguably the best sight in modern times, every Indian cricket lover feels proud to watch a local fast bowler outsmarting some of the world’s best batters with his guile, skill, nous and above all his oh-so-intelligent ‘mind’. Boom Boom Bumrah is the new slogan these days!
