India vs Australia 4th Test Sydney: Debutant Mayank Agarwal is an accidental cricketer, do you know why? The Karnataka-born cricketer’s first love was airplanes and he wanted to become a pilot and had never imagined he would represent India in cricket. But, as they say, someone else and someone wiser writes your script and now he is one of the trusted Indian openers in Tests. On his debut, Mayank Agarwal hit 76 in the Boxing Day Test and missed out on a century, but he had impressed one and all by then. With the regular Indian openers struggling to get among the runs, Mayank was an automatic pick for the Sydney Test, where he came up with the goods again by hitting 77.

In the interview, he says, “I was fond of Aeroplanes in my childhood, so I used to think will do studies in science and will become a pilot. When I played for Karnataka, then I felt that yes, I can do this also. But, I let myself to decide to play only cricket or not playing cricket. My parents were very supportive they keep your options open and pursue what you love.”

“I took commerce stream in 11th and 12th standard so that it doesn’t become hard for me to play cricket and in open schooling, I took science, just in case to do what I love,” he added further.

“At times I felt what will happen if I get picked for the national side. But now when you come to realise how many matches you have played and learned from all games which increases your experience. and that aspect is helping me now,” he ended.
