The morning session of day four in Ranchi completely belonged to India with Cheteshwar Pujara and Wriddhiman Saha dominating the bowling, but there was some comic relief for everyone, even the Aussies.

In the 140th over, Josh Hazlewood bowled a short stuff and Pujara went for the pull, missed it completely before Matthew Wade collected behind the stumps. There was a half shout from the wicketkeeper and the slip fielders, then to everyone’s surprise umpire Chris Gaffaney started to raise the dreaded finger but managed to avoid a big goof-up by scratching his hat in the end. Like Steve Smith, he too for a split second had a brain fade.

However, the incident left Ian Gould, third umpire Nigel Llong and commentators in splits. Moving to the match, the visitors have been left frustrated by the resistance offered by Pujara and Saha. Both the batsmen stitched a century-plus stand to help India take the lead.
