India vs Australia: Former India opener Virender Sehwag has backed KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw to open for India against Australia in the upcoming four-match Test series. Sehwag’s choice is quite contrary to what Sunil Gavaskar reckoned as he had backed Murali Vijay and Prithvi Shaw to open. Rohit Sharma is the other opener in the side, but it seems the management is looking at him as a middle-order batsman if needed. So are you convinced with Sehwag’s choice of openers?
“I think if I am the captain I will give full series to KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw because Murali Vijay got his chance and now he has to wait for his chance again. If somebody flops in eight innings then I will think of giving Murali Vijay a chance. I think those who have been waiting for their turn should get fair chance to prove themselves,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
“Prithvi Shaw proved himself, he scored a hundred on debut and scored 60 odd runs in the next match so he is the future, he will play next 10-12 for years. So he should get the full quota of matches in the series. I don’t see Murali Vijay playing in the Test matches in Australia,” Sehwag explained.
Fifty for Virat Kohli!
The India captain reaches the mark from 78 balls with a four driven through the covers.

Meanwhile, India is playing a practice game with Cricket Australia XI and after the first day was washed off due to rain, the play has resumed on Day 2. KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw opened the batting for India, Shaw smashed a blistering 69-ball 66 but KL Rahul failed as he was dismissed for three runs. Apart from KL Rahul, all the other Indian batsmen have got half-centuries which is great for their confidence ahead of the 1st Test at Adelaide. Kohli hit a brilliant 64 off 87 balls.
