Did you spot a fan dressed like England football manager Gareth Southgate at Edgbaston cheering for Joe Root’s English cricket team? The fan was spotted with the Barmy Army leading chants as the hosts beat India by 31 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series. Earlier, on Day 3, fans wearing masks of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump were spotted at the ground-hugging each other. Such citings were also made during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, Sam Curran bagged the Man of the Match for his four wickets in the first innings and then score a counter-attacking 63 to help England post a total to bowl at. Earlier, Joe Root’s 80 and then Virat Kohli’s 149 stole the show, apart from Ishant Sharma five-wicket haul. But young Curran pipped the more experienced men on the basis of the timing of his innings and wickets. In the first innings, India was going strong at 50/0, that is when his treble rocked the Indian innings and probably made the all-important difference as well.

For, India there is a lot of thinking to do. They had the game in their grasp when the Indian skipper was at the crease but once he was dismissed, no one else showed the game to stick in there. Kohli alone scored 200 runs in the game, whereas the rest managed to put on merely 214 runs. Just goes to show why India lost. Such over-reliance on one person in Test cricket cannot win you games consistently.
