Good news for Indian cricket fans as premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has declared himself fit and ready ahead of India’s first Test against England, which starts on August 1 in Birmingham. However, in his latest Instagram post, the Chennai-born off-spinner was seen bowling in the nets and looks ready to claim his spot in India’s playing XI at Edgbaston on Wednesday. He posted an image of him bowling with the caption, “Just comfortably numb at the crease” – a reference to a song by legendary band Pink Floyd. Ashwin’s injury gave the Indian team management a severe headache as the visitors’ bowling attack has already been weakened due to the absence of two key men – Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The Indian bowling unit struggled on the second day of the practice match against Essex in the absence of these three key bowlers including Ashwin. Kohli’s men failed to bowl out Essex, who declared their first innings for 359/8 at Chelmsford.
In the past few years, Ashwin has emerged as a key figure of the Indian team and his efforts with the ball have helped Virat Kohli and Co. to attain the top spot in ICC Test rankings. He has given some outstanding performances on the home soil and led India to victory single-handedly.
The off-spinner holds the record for being the fastest to pick up 300 Test wickets. Meanwhile, the emergence of wrist spinning duo of – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has given a tough time to the senior, who lost his limited overs spot to the two youngsters.
