India vs England 2018, Test series: Virat Kohli-Led Indian Cricket Team Plans to Donate Match Fees for Kerala Flood Victims, Kerala CM Appreciates Noble Move
Speaking at the post-match conference after winning the third Test in Nottingham, India skipper Virat Kohli dedicated the victory to the Kerala flood victims.
After winning the third Test against England by a whopping margin of 203 runs in Nottingham, Virat Kohli-led Indian in all likelihood will donate their entire match fees earned for the people of Kerala, who suffered one of the biggest natural disasters in the recent times. However, the amount is yet to be ascertained, it could be in the region of Rs 2 crore or more.
Speaking at the post-match conference, India skipper Virat Kohli dedicated the victory to the Kerala flood victims. “We as a team want to dedicate this win to the flood victims in Kerala. This is our bit we can do as the Indian cricket team. A tough time there,”
The Indian players are the richest amongst the sportspersons in the country with the top players earning in millions. For a Test match, a first XI player earns Rs 15 lakh while the reserves get half that amount.

Later, Kerala CM – Pinarayi Vijayan also appreciated Indian team’s move on his official Twitter handle, he wrote a special message saying, “Indian cricket team has dedicated their Trent Bridge test victory to the flood victims of Kerala. CM Pinarayi Vijayan expressed the gratitude of Kerala to Team India (@BCCI) and Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) for this kind gesture.”
The floods have resulted in over 300 deaths in the region. It is learnt that since BCCI’s new constitution has just been adopted under Registrar of Societies, it will take some time before the Indian board can make any official donations.
However, if the players in their own capacities want to help the distressed, the BCCI would not mind.
India staged a thrilling comeback in the five-match Test rubber on Wednesday by thrashing England by 203 runs in the third Test at Trent Bridge. In their pursuit of 521 runs for victory, England resumed their innings at 311/9 and lasted a little over two overs before losing the final wicket of James Anderson (11) to off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. England’s innings closed at 317.
India now trail the five-match rubber 1-2 as they proceed to Southampton for the fourth Test, starting August 30.
