India vs England 3rd Test Day 3 Trent Bridge Report: Virat Kohli’s 23rd Century, Cheteshwar Pujara’s Grit Star, England Need 521 to Win
India vs England 3rd Test Day 3 Trent Bridge Report: Sans rain, India has 180 overs to get 10 English wickets! Can India bundle them out on Day 4?
India vs England 3rd Test Day 3 Trent Bridge Report: India captain Virat Kohli did what he does best, scored his 23rd Test century on Day 3 at Trent Bridge. Surprisingly, this was Kohli’s fourth-slowest hundred, but more importantly, India set England a mammoth target of 521 to win the 3rd Test. With two full days remaining in the Test, England’s chances look bleak and for the first time, the hosts would be praying for rain.
Not to forget, Cheteshwar Pujara’s gritty 72 and a 114-run-stand with his captain would do his confidence a lot of good. Hardik Pandya too brought up his double of scalping a five-wicket haul and hit a half-century in the same Test.
Another sublime knock by @imVkohli and a gritty one by @cheteshwar1. #TeamIndia in a really strong position to finish the game now. #ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/MvF7bvpBTZ

Kohli, en route to his 23rd ton, also became the second Asian captain to score 400-plus runs in a Test series in England after Mohammad Azharuddin (426 runs in 1990). Also, Nottingham Test was the first time after The Oval Test, 2007 (1st innings) that each of the first four Indian batsman has scored 30-plus runs in an innings outside Asia in Tests.
For England, it was a day they would like to forget as their best bowlers Stuart Broad and James Anderson could not get among the wickets and hence they had to resort Joe Root and Adil Rashid get them wickets. That is where the Indians milked them around to finally declare at 352/7.
With nine overs to go in the day, the out-of-form English batsmen Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings had to walk out to the middle. The English did well to survive the stipulated overs without losing a wicket.
