Ashwin registered yet another five-wicket haul, his 24th, to bamboozle England. Jonny Bairstow, who remained unbeaten on 50 on day four, resumed the England innings with Jos Buttler. Ashwin in second over of the day picked the crucial wicket of Bairstow, who could add just one run to his overnight score.
Ashwin in his next over further dented England when he had Chris Woakes bowled for a duck. England batsmen showed no intent to stay on the wicket as Adil Rashid (2), Ashwin’s fifth wicket, holed out to deep mid-wicket while playing an aggressive shot. James Anderson (2) was the last England wicket to fell as Ashwin had him caught. Buttler remained unbeaten on six as India registered third straight win in the series. Joe Root, who was dismissed on day four, was the top scorer for England while Bairstow was second best. For India, Ashwin ended with figures of 55/6 in the second innings and picked a total of 12 wickets in the match. Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jayant Yadav scalped a wicket apiece.
The teams now face-off each other at Chennai from December 16 onwards in the fifth and final Test.
