India vs England 5th Test Kennington Oval: Adil Rashid brought an end to KL Rahul’s phenomenal innings of 149 in the ongoing 5th Test at Kennington Oval on the final session of the Test. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant’s maiden ton helped India take the game down to the wire. The duo put on a 204-run-stand before Adil Rashid bamboozled Rahul from around the wicket. The ball pitched in the rough outside the off-stump and then turned a mile to clip the off-stump bail of Rahul.
Here is the video of the wicket.
KL Rahul too was stunned to see the ball turn that much as his expression said it all. He stood there looking at the pitch as if surprised how did it behave in such a manner.
Meanwhile, with this audacious knock, Rahul has joined the likes of former greats like Sunil Gavaskar and his teammate Shikhar Dhawan to score a century in the fourth innings of an away Test.
Indian openers to score a century in the fourth innings of an away Test:
Gavaskar v WI, Bridgetown, 1971
Gavaskar v WI, Port of Spain, 1976
Gavaskar v Aus, Brisbane, 1977
Gavaskar v Eng, The Oval, 1979
S Dhawan v NZ, Auckland, 2014
KL Rahul v England, The Oval, 2018*
Earlier, Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a test century in England and the second youngest to wicketkeeper to score a ton in 20y 338d. Ajay Ratra did it in 20y 148d against West Indies in 2002. He also became the fourth Indian to bring up his maiden Test hundred with a six, Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh and Irfan Pathan did it in the past.
Pant, also opened his account in Test cricket with a six. Pant has shown aggression and the ability to do it consistently. It’s been a run-fest at The Oval in the lunch-tea session on the final day of the Test. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have tore the bowlers apart. India is 166 runs behind, 5 overs to go for the second new ball. A lot to look forward to. A cracking finish beckons.
