Right-arm pacer Shardul Thakur has been named as the replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah in the three-match ODI series against England which begins July 12. Bumrah had fractured his left thumb during India’s first T20I against Ireland at Malahide before undergoing a scan and had to sit out the next game. He was then ruled out of the entire three-match T20I series against England with the hope being that he would recover in time for the three-match ODI series.

However, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday confirmed in a statement that Bumrah will not be around for the ODIs either, and has returned to India.

“Bumrah underwent a surgery on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in Leeds before returning to India,” said the statement. “The surgery was successful and he will commence rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.”
