India vs Ireland 1st T20I: Indian captain Virat Kohli is on the cusp of becoming the first Indian batsman to breach the 2000-run mark. India take on Ireland in the 1st T20I on Wednesday. Kohli, who is returning from a neck injury will have a lot of expectations riding on him when India take on Ireland at Dublin. Virat Kohli is currently on 1983 runs in T20Is. Virat needs merely 17 runs to get to 2000 runs.

Overall, he would become the third batsman to breach the 2000-run mark. Martin Guptill (2271) and Brendon McCullum (2140) are the only two cricketers ahead of Virat Kohli. Given the fact that McCullum has called it a day, Virat will have the opportunity to go past the Kiwi sooner rather than later.

For India, Rohit Sharma (1852) is the second highest run-getter after Kohli and Rohit is followed by Suresh Raina in the third spot.

Raina has 1499 runs and needs one more run to get to 1500 runs in T20Is.

Meanwhile, it will be important for India to get acclimatised to the foreign conditions where the balls swings a lot, unlike in India, where the ball keeps low and turns a lot. Getting used to conditions early would help India start the English series with confidence. India play two T20Is against Ireland before they take on England for a full-series.

The match at Dublin would also mark India’s 100th T20I, making them the seventh team to breach the mark.

The match starts at 20:30 hrs.
