The legend of Sunil Chhetri rolls on!

Indian captain Sunil Chhetri scored a goal in the 8th minute of the Intercontinental Cup 2018 Finals. Sunil already had 6 goals in 3 matches to his name. This makes it 7, Sunil’s highest number of goals in a tournament, equalling his feat from the SAFF Games. He is now just two goals away from going past Lionel Messi to stand at the second spot in the all-time international goal-scorer list. It is a big setback for Kenya early on in the match. Now they would always play chase in this match.

The second goal came soon in the 28th minute. Sunil Chhetri now needs just one goal to go past Lionel Messi.

Sunil Chhetri is also enjoying his longest goal-scoring streak, he has now scored goals in all his last seven international appearances.

Here is the goal.

It was a free-kick, it was not easy as the ball took a bad bounce but that is where Sunil brought his experience in play to score the goal. The ball had also taken a deflection.

Meanwhile, India has beaten Kenya in their league stage match and hence they will have the upper hand in today’s clash. Sunil Chhetri had scored a brace in that game, which was also his 100th international.

If India wins, it will be great as a part of their preparation in the lead up to the mega AFC Asian Cup 2019. Stephen Constantine, India’s coach has reinstated this over and over again in the past.

Now, India have a 2-0 cushion to play with.
